Lesbian Chronicles: The Blog

Where It All Started

I came out later in life. I was 32 when I first stepped foot in a lesbian bar. I remember the apprehension I felt about just crossing the thresh hold. It was a bar called Henrietta Hudson's on Hudson St. and Morton St. in the West Village, in New York. It's the type of bar where older, more butch lesbians go. There are younger, more feminine lesbians that go there, but they aren't common.

I decided on Henrietta's after an online search for lesbian bars in NYC. They seemed to have the most awards, and also marketed themselves as being the premiere lesbian bar in the city. Truth is, they are 1 of only 2 full-time, lesbian bars in Manhattan. It's Cubby Hole and Hen's, and that's it! RF lounge (Real Friends Lounge, formerly Ruby Fruit closed down a few months ago, they were the other full-time lesbian bar in town).

That first time at Henrietta's I went with a guy named Frankie, they wouldn't let him in because he was straight. The door people said that there needed to be 2 women accompanying a man in order for him to get in. So I had to go in alone. I didn't stay long, was in and out in a few minutes. *Frankie was always trying to get it in (have sex) with me, but he never did.

Where It Is Now

The other notable lesbian parties in NY are held in other venues on various nights of the week (Eden on Wednesdays, Stilettos on Sundays etc..) Maggie Collier runs these parties. She seems really cool.. and is absolutely stunning! You can find me @ Stilettos sometimes getting it down on the dance floor. Especially when DJ Brynn is on the turntables!

Queen Latifah’s girlie night out at lesbian bash

Queen Latifah’s girlie night out at lesbian bashNew York, August 8 : Queen Latifah was spotted letting her hair down with five women at a lesbian bash.
The actress was seen at Country Club''s weekly Wednesday night party, "Eden," on West 14th Street.
"She chilled for several hours, ordering bottle service for her friends and chatting up promoter Maggie Collier," the New York post quoted a spy as saying.
The rapper, who has continued to let her sexuality remain a mystery, was again spotted this week. (ANI)

Where Have You Been?

"Where have you been
Cause I never see you out
Are you hiding from me, yeah?
Somewhere in the crowd"
-Rihanna (from the song Where Have You Been)

I have made some great friends which I am very grateful for! They are just great women and I love them all. However, in terms of finding love, well, that's a whole other story "/

Right now I feel quite pessimistic about finding love, I'm not going to lie. The bar scene is just not my cup of tea. I feel like I just don't jive well with  people that I meet in bars. And as I'm getting older (I will be 40 years young on November 21st 2012), I find that I have less and less in common with people much younger than me.

My friends tell me that I'm too picky. I'm not going to hold you, I am a little. However, I have deal breakers like anyone else. And while I have women that are very attractive and successful who would like to date me, I just can't let go of my so called "high standards".

And what are these unrealistic expectations? Let's see there's: fidelity, sobriety & emotional stability..
